The Royal Knights delivered a masterclass performance on Saturday, dismantling the Wildmen 7-1 in a game that was all but decided in the first period. The Knights came out flying, peppering the Wildmen net with an incredible 32 shots in the opening frame alone, while holding their opponents to just 16 through the entire game. Ayaan Meghji (#21) set the tone early, opening the scoring at 9:45 of the first period with helpers from Nicholas Roppo (#12) and Shaedon Shergill (#11). The floodgates opened from there, as Dylan Norton (#5) and Kurosh Rezania (#98) added goals before the first intermission, with Rezania’s tally coming off a setup from Joshua Paiva (#4) and Andrew Charlton (#91).
The second period saw no letup from the home side. Daniel Staples (#14) made it 4-0 at 6:30 on an unassisted effort, and Shergill (#11) added his first of the night just over a minute later, with Meghji turning provider once again. The Wildmen finally got on the board early in the third period when Armaan Singh (#88) found the back of the net with help from Adrian Pablo (#93) and Holden Matheson (#77), briefly cutting the deficit to 5-1. But any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished when Roppo (#12) restored the five-goal lead at 11:01, assisted by Evan Jones (#44) and Norton. The Knights would add one more on the power play at 6:39, with Jones (#44) capping the scoring off feeds from Geoff Norton (#17) and Oscar Gilbert (#29).
While the goalie stats showed zeros across the board, the game story was clear: Royal Knights netminder Jacob Gilbert (#22) was nearly perfect, turning aside all but one of the 16 shots he faced in a dominant effort. His counterpart, Matthew Italia (#69) of the Wildmen, was under constant siege and faced an impossible task against the Knights' relentless attack. The only penalty of the night for the Knights came on a tripping call to Dylan Norton late in the second period, but the Wildmen failed to capitalize. A body contact minor to Marcos Soltero (#8) of the Wildmen in the third period proved costly, as Jones’ power-play goal sealed the emphatic victory. The Royal Knights' balanced scoring and stifling defense made this a night to remember for the home faithful and one the Wildmen will look to put behind them quickly.
