Railers Roll Past Cobra Kai in Physical, High-Scoring Affair

The Railers charged to a commanding 5-2 victory over Cobra Kai in a contest that saw goals come in bunches, special teams make an impact, and the physicality ratchet up late. After a scoreless first period where the Railers outshot Cobra Kai 17-13, the dam finally broke in the middle frame. Cobra Kai struck first just 4:26 into the second period when Nazheef Gangji (0) found the back of the net with helpers from Vic Maholtra (2) and Arman Chaterjee (8), giving the visitors a short-lived 1-0 lead. But the Railers responded with relentless pressure, tying the game just over two minutes later on a goal by Jake Gehlert (3). The offensive explosion continued as Brady Heschuk (12) took over, scoring back-to-back goals—first at 6:38 of the second with assists from Simon Doak (8) and Aiden Clarke (2), then again with just 25 seconds left in the period, this time set up by Tyson Fasek (72). The Railers carried a 3-1 lead into the dressing room.

But any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished when Joe Abougosh (27) sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 0:16, assisted by netminder Nate Handy (1). The goalie numbers told a confusing story—Handy was credited with the win after stopping all 13 shots he faced, while Cobra Kai's Jamil Kara (13) took the loss despite some truly bizarre save percentages (218.8% on 35 shots against), while a mysterious "Team Cobra Kai" goaltender allowed an empty-netter in just two minutes of work. Regardless of the statistical anomalies, the Railers skated away with a decisive victory.
